A Southern Film Student
Ahmad Magee is a Southern Louisianan, who is highly interested in film more than the rest of us. Heavily influenced by Christina Aguilera, Denzel Washington, George Clooney, and Will Smith for not just the talents and roles they play, but for their honesty and their ability to captivate what an entertainer really is. These actors and actress are like no other, and Ahmad strongly feels that recent actors will never compare to his top four.
His grandmother, who also enjoys movies and theater, was the main reason why Ahmad was really into films. Ahmad’s grandmother use to take him to Broadway shows in New York City, and the movies all the time. His favorite movie of all is Burlesque starring 6 time Grammy and Golden Globe nominee Christina Aguilera and the iconic pop legend Cher. At this point in his life, he knew he wanted to study and learn about film.
Described by his friends as, “One of the nicest, friendliest, and sometimes overdramatic person they’ve met”, and “the person you go to when you’re having a hard time deciding what to watch on Netflix.” Ahmad’s everyday routine consists of him practicing lines over and over for theater to get as much practice in as he can. He is determined that he will be the next Denzel Washington. Ahmad has even admitted that he once took a headshot where he looked exactly like a Denzel Washington that he uses when auditioning. While he has only ever acted in theatrical plays up until his sophomore year of high school, he continues to work backstage.
Remembering how nervous he was before his first theatrical performance in middle school, it did not take Ahmad too long to become comfortable acting in front of people. It wasn’t too long after that when he realized he would work behind scenes rather than in front. Working back stage for shows and constantly watching movies every day, all day, was the eye opener for why Ahmad wanted to work in film to become an assistant director or even head director.
The advice Ahmad would give to anyone who’s interested in theater, film, mass communication, or anything that requires a nervous reaction while performing in front of a large crowd would be to never back down, always take deep breaths, don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do, and never forget to smile.
